World War two begins at 04.45 September the first, when German battleship Schleswig-Holstein commences a firing on a Polish armys fortress Westerplatte. Same time German troops start to cross the border into Poland.

The battleship SMS Schleswig-Holstein was constructed in Kiel in August 1905 and served in both of the World Wars. The ship was used as a training vessel for most of the time, because it was outdated in armor, size and firepower when it was completed. The battleship Schleswig-Holstein was sunk by British bombers in December 1944. The Battleship was briefly used after the bombardment in the Soviet Navy, before using it as scrap metal.

The Ford N-Series tractor production started june 29 1939 with the model 9N. The 9N production modell introduced a three point hitch system on American made tractors, though, this design is still used in most of the modern tractors. The productions model’s name 9N was taken from the last digit of the year 1939. It was first demonstrated in Dearborn Michigan in the late June.

The legendary Ford N-Series was designed to be a general purpose tractor to suit different purposes in small farms. The model had also a transmission with three speeds and also foot pegs instead of running boards. The exhaust was also routed under the tractor, which was unique. All the first 9N model tractors were painted dark grey.

The model 9n was later on updated with the models 2N (1941), 8N (1947) and NAA model. The 8N modell became the most popular tractor in the North America.

Batman made his first appearance in a comic book 01.05.1939 created by Bob Kane and unofficially Bill Finger. The firts appearance of Batman was in Detective Comics issue 27 and since the first appearance it has appeared primarily in different publications by DC Comics.

Batman appeared in the issue 27 because National Publications (future DC Comics) wanted more superheroes for its titles. The response of Bob Kane and collaborator Bill Finger was to create a character who looked very similar as Superman, except this superhero had to stiff bat wings.

Batmans personality and character history came from the popular culture of the 1930′s, especially from the films The Mark of Zorro and The Bat Whispers.

Originally Batman was refered as The Bat-Man and also names like The Caped Crusader, The Dark Knight and The World’s Greatest Detective were used as titles. Batman became extremely popular after his own comic book title in the year 1940.

Billie Holiday records Strange Fruit, which is the first anti-lynching song. The song was released in Billie Holiday’s first recording in the April 20 in the year 1939. The song Strange Fruit was written by a Jewish high-school teacher Abel Meeropol from the Bronx. It was originally written as a poem, which focused on the American racism (lynching of African Americans).

The poem was originally published in the year 1936 in an union magazine The New York Teacher. In the poem Abel expressed his horror at lynchings.

Nowadays the song has been covered by numerous artist, for example in 1978 Holiday’s version of the song was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Timeless Test is the longest game of cricket ever played. The game started in South Africa March 3rd and the game was abandoned twelve days later, when the English players needed to catch the ferry back to England. South Africa set a target of 696 for England to win, however, the time the english players needed to leave to cathch their boat, thei had reached 654 for 5.

The definition of a timeless Test crocket play is a test cricket played under no limitation of time. The match is played until one side wins or the match is tied with theoretically no possibility of a draw. Basically it means that defensively play for a draw is not possible to play and in principle the format should guarantee a result, though, making the commercial aspects and scheduling of the events very difficult.
