Erzincan earthquake
In the 27th December 1939 at 1:57 a natural disaster hit the province of Erzincan in Turkey. The earthquake was 8.2 Richters being one of the most forcefull earthquakes in Turkey’s modern history.
The earthquake killed total of 33 000 people. The first phase of the earthquake killed eight thousand people but in the next coming weeks over 20 000 people were killed do to more earthquakes and floods caused by the earthquake.
The damage in the city of Erzincan was enormous. The city was abandoned and a new town of Erzincan was founded furher to north.
