Batman made his first appearance in a comic book 01.05.1939 created by Bob Kane and unofficially Bill Finger. The firts appearance of Batman was in Detective Comics issue 27 and since the first appearance it has appeared primarily in different publications by DC Comics.
Batman appeared in the issue 27 because National Publications (future DC Comics) wanted more superheroes for its titles. The response of Bob Kane and collaborator Bill Finger was to create a character who looked very similar as Superman, except this superhero had to stiff bat wings.
Batmans personality and character history came from the popular culture of the 1930′s, especially from the films The Mark of Zorro and The Bat Whispers.
Originally Batman was refered as The Bat-Man and also names like The Caped Crusader, The Dark Knight and The World’s Greatest Detective were used as titles. Batman became extremely popular after his own comic book title in the year 1940.
